Shasta Date Cancelled

After discussion with track operators this week unfortunately it has been decided that due to circumstances outside of our control it is in the best interest of both Shasta Speedway and NSRA to cancel the upcoming show on September 21st. We apologize to any fans who hoped to attend this show. Discussions have already begun to try and put something together for our 2014 schedule. Our 2013 season is now complete and we are looking forward to our annual meeting and banquet on October 26th.

NSRA President

Hein Catches Breaks in Fourth RPM Victory

If you’ve ever talked with a race car driver you know there are three things they love sharing, racing memories, stories and even some myths.  The drivers at the Rory Price Memorial are no exception to the rule, except perhaps that many of the memories are of Rory himself.  I enjoy hearing the stories and memories Price’s friends have of him, “Anytime I can be in a situation that I can feel that I’m closer to Rory, then that’s a really good place for me to be.” said Billy Kennelly after running in his first Rory Price Memorial (RPM).  Kennelly and Price were close friends away from the track, and fierce competitors on the track, from go carts to their days running midgets together, “Running side by side, when you’re racing your buddy like that there’s nothing better.”  Kennelly shared his memories racing with Price.  I never really knew Rory on a Price on a

Honoring a Former Driver and Friend

The ASA/NSRA winged sprint cars will overtake Evergreen Speedway in Monroe Washington, as they play host to the Rory Price Memorial (RPM) on Saturday August 3rd.  Seven years ago a tragic accident jolted the racing community, Rory Price, a racer, friend, father, husband and son lost his life far too early.  Since his passing RPM has become a sanctuary for those who knew Price, and a time to celebrate the extraordinary life of one of our own.  Price’s family and friends have used their loss to rally together in an effort to carry on Rory’s love for open wheeled racing.  Thanks to their countless hours of work and generous donations they have made the RPM one of the most prestigious races in the Northwest and have raised thousands of dollars towards The Rory Price Family Fund which ensures Rory’s daughter a secure future.

Four Drivers Honored in Two Nights of Racing

Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Oregon will play host to the NSRA/WWS series' this weekend.  Oregon has a rich history of open wheel racers, and the four men that will be honored and celebrated this weekend helped lay the ground work for the future of sprint car racing.  Don Hein, Casey Diemert, Art Pollard and Vern Dykstra are all very well known names in Roseburg, Oregon and each of them has touched the racing community and local community in his own way.

Brown is WWS/NSRA Super Shoe

POST FALLS, Idaho – Most race car drivers would prefer to keep all the contents of their racing attire. Saturday night, Rick Brown gladly gave away one of his shoes after winning the annual “Super Shoe Show” sprint car race at Stateline Speedway, co-sanctioned by the Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association and Western Winged Sprint Cars.

The 59-year-old Brown, who led all 40 laps of Saturday’s main event, ended up putting his shoe on the event’s permanent trophy, where it is expected to remain until at least next year’s event. Even better for the 14-time open wheel champion, it broke a long dry spell. Brown couldn’t remember exactly when, but he said it was “a few years ago” at Oregon’s Douglas County Speedway the last time he won a main event.

Important Schedule Change

Due to recent promotor changes at Spokane Speedway, they have elected to cancel the June 28th Friday night show.  They extended a sincere apology for the inconvenience, and have expressed a desire to have a back in the future, but just felt the event wouldn't work for their immediate business plans.

With that, the June 29th, Saturday night show at Stateline Speedway, is still on as scheduled.  ASA/NSRA would like to extend an open invitation to our fans in the Spokane area, to make their way across the boarder into Idaho and join us for what is sure to be an exciting night of open wheel racing.

2012 defending champion, Andy Alberding, will roll into Stateline with a marginal points lead over Billy Kennelly.  Johnny Giesler sits third in the standings and is followed by Rick Brown.  Sierra Jackson, despite a serious accident in Meridian, Idaho, rounds out the fifth spot.

2013 Diamond Cup

ASA/NSRA makes their second stop of the 2013 season at Meridian Speedway in Meridian, Idaho. Idaho native Sierra Jackson holds the early points lead, with hopes of extending her lead on her home track.  Jackson is being chased by defending champion Andy Alberding and fellow Idaho native Johnny Giesler. Two time defending champion Matt Hein has ironed out some off season issues and will make his first appearance of the season.

The two night Diamond Cup kicks off tonight and the diamond will be presented to the winner at the conclusion of Saturday nights event. The cosanctioned event with WWS plans to be a huge race as they wrap up their second annual Speedweek.

Alberding Ends Winless Drought at Evergreen Speedway

The ASA Northwest Sprint Car Racing Association opened its 2013 season over the weekend on the 5/8-mile track at Evergreen Speedway with defending series champion Andy Alberding taking the win.

ASA NSRA driver Jeff Montgomery was the fast qualifier, the early race leader and looked like he was in position to take the race until mechanical problem brought an end to his night. Alberding took the lead and battled Sierra Jackson during the latter part of the race before Jackson slowed yet hung on to take second place with Johnny Geisler, Todd Coleman and Billy Kennelly rounding out the Top 5.
