Super Shoe Show at Stateline Speedway

POST FALLS, Idaho -- If the Super Shoe Show at Stateline Speedway in Post Falls, Idaho was about winning a glass slipper, then Sierra Jackson appropriately fit the finish line.

The 17-year-old, recent Middleton High, Idaho graduate, started the 50-Lap feature inside the second row and patiently waited 30 circuits before moving around pole-sitter Greg Middendorf, Snohomish, Wash. Jackson then set her sights on Justin Mack, Benton City, Wash., who had led every green flag lap of the NSRA/ASA Tour event. As Mack’s tires began to wear, Jackson began to challenge for the top spot. The lone female in the field found her opportunity on Lap 40 in Turn 2 as she made a clean pass on the outside groove.
Once Jackson moved into the lead, she rocketed down the back shoot and cruised to her second-ever NSRA/ASA career victory.
“Once I made the pass, I just told myself to stay calm and collected,” Jackson said. “I knew I was a bit faster than (Mack) and I could tell he was loose. When I went for the pass, I just didn’t want to rub tires.”
Before the checkered flag flew, Cory Lockwood, Nampa, Idaho, and Randy DuBois, Poulsbo, Wash., both followed Jackson around Mack. Matt Hein, Roseburg, Ore., who broke his own Stateline Speedway record in qualifying (11.292 seconds), finished fifth.
Mack, who won the Diamond Cup at Meridian, Idaho, last month explained his troubles during the waning laps of the Super Shoe Show Saturday.
“We had to drive a ton of caution laps and lost a lot of fuel,” Mack said. “The more weight we got rid of, the looser we got on the track. Our tires also wore and I lost the bite we needed in the turns.”
Drivers were forced to expend excess fuel due to a couple lengthy caution delays. The key postponement came on Lap 7 when the field was flagged under yellow after Matt Mansell contacted Justin Popple. Popple’s car suffered heavy damage and came to rest in Turn 4 before being towed away. While crews worked to clear the track, the field circuited 56 caution laps. When the checkered flag flew, there were 10 cars running.
Runner-up Lockwood stated after the feature that he had a car capable of winning, but may have second guessed his aggressiveness.
“I love going through lapped traffic with the leaders and doing so put (Lockwood) in a position to win,” Lockwood said. “I should let her (Jackson) know I was there with her … a couple times I was right there (to pass).”
Lockwood won the A Dash with Todd Coleman, Hein and Andy Alberding finishing second through fourth respectively. Richie Larson won the B Dash with Ron Larson, Mansell and Chris Schmelzle following to the checkered.
Kevin Burck won the first Heat with Jackson and Coleman coming in second and third. Popple won the second Heat with Schmelzle and DuBois placing close behind. The third Heat was won by Richie Larson with Mack and Hein finishing second and third.
Hein, the fast qualifier, drew the 8 of spades to create the eight-car invert in the feature.
The NSRA/ASA resumes its tour July 24 in Roseburg, Ore., at the Douglas County Speedway.
