Diamond Cup 2008 Meridian, Idaho Pre-Race

ASA NORTHWEST SPRINT CAR SERIES 4TH and 5TH RACE OF THE 2008 CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON MAY 30TH AND 31ST

The fourth and fifth race of the 2008 Championship season, Meridian Speedway, Meridian, Idaho hosts the winged sprint cars this Friday and Saturday for the Direct Diamond Imports Diamond Cup presented by Printcraft of Caldwell

Everett, WA – May 28, 2008 - The American Speed Association/Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association (ASA/NSRA) drivers and teams continue their quest for the win and the points championship with a critical two-race weekend in the running of the Direct Diamond Imports Diamond Cup presented by Printcraft of Caldwell at Meridian Speedway.  The Diamond Cup is two separate races that will earn two separate points totals for each night, Friday and Saturday.  Teams must be prepared for two nights action and drivers must be mentally ready to attack the oval both Friday and Saturday.  Meridian Speedway has its own winged Sprint Car class so a large number of local cars will be on hand to challenge the tour drivers of ASA/NSRA.  In addition to the purse paid out for each nights racing and the season points to be earned, drivers will be competing for a custom crafted diamond ring made especially for this event by Direct Diamond Imports to be presented to the overall points earner for the weekend.

The Meridian Speedway is currently a quarter mile eight degree lightly banked paved racetrack. Meridian Speedway will provide the ASA/NSRA cars with a flatter track to get around than the quarter-mile Wenatchee Valleys’ Super Oval banked track just two weeks ago requiring teams to have an even more precise chassis setup for their sprint cars to compete for the win.

Expected at Meridian Speedway are current points leader, the 2006 ASA/NSRA season champion Jeff Montgomery driving the # 33j car, Matt Hein in the 98h car currently second in the points championship twenty five points behind the leader, third in season points Justin Mack in the # 17 car, fourth in points Jake Mann in the # 51 car, fifth in points the teenage driver Cory Lockwood wheeling the # 99r car, sixth in points the returning 2007 champion Andy Alberdine in the #76 car, seventh in points, a tie between R. J. Fronsman in the # 25z car and teenage driver Sierra Jackson in the # 25j car, ninth Adam Roduner driving the # 82 car, tied for tenth in points Rick Brown in the # 99 car and Greg Middendorf in the # 4 car.

ASA/NSRA is the most exciting opened wheel racing on the west coast and by far the fastest. NSRA drivers currently hold 20 all time track records at venues throughout the region.  These are open wheeled, winged sprint cars running on paved ovals utilizing 750 horsepower alcohol-burning engines running on tracks that vary in length from quarter mile to five-eights mile facilities.
