Elliott Wins ASA/ NSRA Friday Night Opener
By: Meridian Speedway Media/BC
Meridian, ID – Hometown favorite, Matt Elliott, took over the lead on lap 16 from Benton City, Washington’s Justin Mack and never looked back, as the Meridian Speedway regular scored the Friday night ASA NSRA win. With the lead in hand Elliott was then challenged in getting by the lapped cars, demonstrating his skill by slipping past the traffic with ease. Back in the field another pair of local stars, Sierra Jackson and (wouldn’t you know) Bryan Warf, who has three late model stock car wins in 2007 and is now after a sprint car win, were battling for second the whole race long with Colville, Washington’s Monte Zima Jr. in a hold pattern that would keep him ahead of Brandon Johnson. At the drop of the checkered flag Elliott would prevail, as Jackson would hold off Warf with Zima settling for fourth and Johnson rounding out the top five.
A talented field of drivers made up the 17-car feature that pitted many of the local teams against the visiting NSRA tour drivers, and the ASA sanctioned Meridian Speedway fans were thrilled to see four of the top five finishers all Meridian Speedway regulars. Tough luck fell on Mike Cullum, as a crash in the heat race eliminated the young up-and-coming driver from the remainder of the night’s racing. The ASA NSRA regulars will be looking for the win on Saturday, as the two-day battle continues.
